Shoo Social Media is helping the local community to understand and engage with the digital world by supporting Digital Ilkley on the 1st November. Founders of Shoo Social Media, Rachel Hatfield and Chris Morris, have been coaching local primary schools to develop their skills in advance of the coding competition held by Digital Ilkley. Chris Morris has been teaching students how to use the software ‘Scratch’ to their best advantage. Ben Rhydding Primary School has particularly engaged with Shoo Social Media and has been furthering their coding, PowerPoint and presentation skills in order to try and secure first place. The aim of the competition is to build an educational, cross curricular game for key stage one pupils and present their workings to a panel of judges in front of other students at the Kings Hall.
Chris Morris describes, “This is a great educational opportunity, highlighting the importance of the digital world in schools, business and for the local residents of the town. It demonstrates just how powerful the influence social media can have on a business and careers.”
Shoo Social Media and Digital Ilkley are working together to help the local community understand the digital world, in a tangible real world setting. They are encouraging local community members of all ages to get involved. From primary schools, to parents, to 6th form students, to local businesses, to Ilkley town residents; there is something for everyone at this all day event!
We have been working in partnership with Digital Ilkley Founder of the event, Stuart Hyde QP, who is the leading expert in business cyber-security. He said, “The aim of the event is to help the local area with a great opportunity to learn and experience how to make the most out of the digital world and equally as important, how to stay safe online.”
Digital Ilkley will be held at the Kings Hall from 9am on November 1st and is free to attend and is fully supported by Ilkley Parish Council, Ilkley Business Forum and Ilkley BNI.
