Sales in a digital world for business: we love it and hate it!

Everyone has a love hate relationship with sales. We know it is imperative for survival for all businesses yet we always stick to traditional methods of sales and marketing. Why do we do this? An interesting thought is that has been embedded into our senses from sales directors from a bygone era of a non digital age. This is just something we’re comfortable and why change the habit of a lifetime? What is the answer? There are lots answers and theories out there that say digital marketing and sales is overwhelming but then who doesn’t get annoyed with the phone ringing all the time. We tell our sales teams to get on the phone yet most of us won’t take the calls to speak to people as we’re too busy or just don’t want to be sold at! So, why do we still adopt these traditional methods? Is it a safety...

Work Hard Play Hard Pays Off!

When we found out a few months ago that we had been shortlisted for the micro-business award at the Ilkley Business Awards we were absolutely thrilled that we were being given some recognition for all the hard work and long hours we have put in to our livelihood- our business.   So, two weeks ago we got out the glad rags and got ready for an evening of fun! We started the evening off a little early in the Shoo Office having a few celebratory drinks with the whole Shoo team and some of our closest business-friends that we had invited to come with us to share our success and to thank them for supporting us along the way.   After making our way through a sea of tuxedos and complimentary Champagne we were able to take in just how beautiful the King’s Hall Winter Garden looked! We have been there many times...

At best, we’re all just hoping that it surpasses the miserably prolonged length of time that those who dare to utter it’s name call “2016”.   So it’s January. By now you’ve probably already broken your ‘dry January’ and you’re looking glumly at the direct debit you’ve set up for the gym, yet you haven’t actually managed to go yet. If you’re the owner of a business you’ve probably drawn up your entire year of marketing strategies in order to make your sales boom - right? No? Does 2017 already look irritatingly similar to all...

Will Facebook Live Blow Periscope Away?

Periscope was founded in 2014 under the name Bounty, and has been described by co-founder Kayvon Beykpour as an ‘Exploration in human anthropology’. Periscope’s website tells it’s users that it was ‘founded on the belief that live video is beautiful source of truth and connects us in an authentic way to the world around us’. In a world of corrupt media organisations, phone hackers, photoshopping and biased reporting, this rhetoric is powerful. Bounty was launched publicly in March 2015, now named Periscope and had been acquired by Twitter. The concept for the app was very simple: users can stream and watch live videos from any user on the app, and by embedding your live video into your tweet you can live stream to your twitter followers also. The concept was innovative and unique and gave Twitter an edge that no other social media platform, other than of course Periscope itself,...

Afternoon tea could make a difference to your balance sheet

So back in the 2011, I used to blog for another website! I feel that this blog still has relevance today and I wrote this a few years ago now! Sadly this hotel is no longer and closed its doors in January 2013 but the design of the hotel has always fascinated me as a student and as an hotelier. I remember doing my internship back in 2000 and reading Best Loved hotel directory and being in love with this hotel. Anouska Hempel is an amazing hotel designer and I would certainly recommend staying a hotel that she has designed. The Hempel Hotel was a 5-star luxury boutique hotel in London and was located at the north of Hyde Park just off Bayswater Road.   I feel the blog is still relevant today because if social media had been a more prominent marketing tool, perhaps there would have been more awareness of...
